Allrighty

There, I've done it. I've made blogger.com my startpage... this should insure that I update the sucker at least once a week.

I am at times amazed how much our genes play into our social interactions. Or our "racial memory" as I've heard it described. Phobias are a golden example. For hundreds of thousands of years our ancestors have trodden on spiders, and as a consequence their feet got rather swollen and purple. Their mates thought "Blow that for a lark", and as a result even small children recognise the arachnid form as bad news.
Of course, no spiders in Denmark are actually dangerous in any way, at most they can wiggle their legs at you for a bit... So thanks a lot for my arachnophobia mother nature!

At times, I get to feeling quite territorial. If someone starts flirting with my wife for example, the first thought that goes into my mind is not "Oh well, he doesn't mean anything by it probably", no, what I think is MINE. Then my cultural filters kick in, to stop me actually inflicting bodily harm out of instinct. This usually results in a bit of a rictus grin, and a rather firm handshake, but no one is harmed. Quite useful I've always thought.
